ENSEMBLE DE JAZZ LATIN JOÉ ARMANDO
Born in Bogota . Colombia , Joé Armando became a professional musician at the age of 17 and quickly made a name for himself. His first appearance was at the expo '67 in Montreal . He has also played in Puerto Rico , Curaçao, Aruba , Venezuela , Cuba , United States and all over Canada .
In 1975, he was invited by New York piano Virtuoso Richard Sasnow who formed a group with Paul Duplessis ( percussionist of M.S.O.), Peter Leich (famous jazz guitarist) and Denis James (bass player for the M.S.O.) In 1977, he shared the stage of the Olympic Stadium in Montreal with Emerson, Lake and Palmer. In 1984 Jo é Armando performed a series of concerts with bassist Mirosiav Vitous of the legendary group Weather Report.
In 1986, he played at the Spectrum, in Montreal , for the first time with his idol and long time friend Tito Puente. In 1993 he performed at the Jazz festival of Ottawa . The following year, on March 25 th , he did a concert (which was filmed for television) with his Latin jazz Ensemble at the National Gallery of Canada. Len Dobbins, who happens to be a famous jazz critic, put Jo é on his list of top 10 jazz shows at the Montreal Jazz Festival for 1995.
In 1996, at the famous nightclub Metropolis, Jo é alternated with top bill salsa bands from New York City : Isidro Infante y la Elite, Sarabanda el Conjunto Imagen and on April 15 1996 , Jo é alternated for the second time with Tito Puente.
He has played several festivals like Winnipeg Jazz Festival, St-John Blues Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, International Jazz Festival of Montreal, World Beat Festival in Quebec and Burlington Jazz Festival.
On October 12th , 2003 Joe made a tribute to Tito Puente with his latin band at the Cubano's Club, in Montreal . Joé Armando's band is fun, young, talented and versatile musicians who dominate jazz and latin music.
