Carla Marques and São
Le va et vient - June 12, 2004

Carla Marques

Carla Marques born in Kuanda, Angola, an old Portuguese colony of Africa, has been classically trained in voice. She developed a unique singing voice in the hands of the great opera singer Nathalie Choquette. Born of a natural talent and with the incredible experience of Nathalie, she soon discovered her passion for the art of lyricism and classical singing.

Passionate for the music of her origins, she loves singing lyrics which are both simple and touches fado, the traditional music of Portugal. Today, she shares her unconditional love for the music of her country with her community who are her admirers. She consecrates most of her time writing new text and melodies that she desires to share in her eventual premiere album, which is slated to be released this fall of 2004. Carla without a doubt will be singing the rest of her life without compromise.

São

If the word fado suggests to you a longing, nostalgic and reserved music, don’t fool yourself. Like all tradition, that of fado can reincarnate itself for a younger generation and thousands of miles away from its origin. Born in Acores, São grew up in Montreal on the Plateau Mont Royal since her arrival at the age of 9. Having heard her grandmother sing melodies during her youth, she remembers all the words and intonation. The young girl kept her souvenirs all these years. The recordings of the chanteuse Amalia Rodriguez persuaded her to the universal appeal of this music and becoming a young lady, she consecrates long hours to fado.
